THE AMERICAN PIANO

Gershwin has for sometime crossed between the worlds of classical and jazz but Beatrice brings the addition of Art Tatum who was described by Rachmaninov as being 'the greatest piano player in any style'. She also performs music by one the great rag time players, Jelly Roll Morton, a composer who incorporated both classical and opera into his ragtime and blues. China Gates by John Adams is a stupendous piece of minimalism that creates a rainbow of pianistic sounds and resonances. Beatrice is excited to bring music from Connor Chee. Chee is a 36 year old American Indian pianist-composer, from the Navajo tribe, known for combining classical music with American Indian heritage sounds.
